Terms of Service
About these terms
These are Flare's Terms of Service. They govern your use of Flare, the dating app operated by FLARE DATING LIMITED ("Flare", "we", "us"), on the web and on iOS and Android. By creating an account or using Flare you agree to them.
Flare is a pre-launch product: it is in final development ahead of public release, features described below reflect what the app does today, and this page is updated as the product changes. Where something is not yet built or not yet automated, that is stated plainly rather than implied to exist.
Eligibility
You must be 18 or older to use Flare. This is enforced when your profile is created — a date of birth that would make you under 18 is rejected outright, not merely discouraged, so no usable profile can exist for a minor.
Your account
You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address — there is no password to manage or lose. You are responsible for keeping access to that email account secure; anyone who can read your sign-in code can sign in as you.
Verification gates the product. You cannot browse other members, be shown to other members, or send a message until your identity has been verified. This is enforced in the database as a precondition for those functions, not just an interface choice — see the Privacy Policy for what identity verification involves, what is sent to our verification provider, and its current limits.
Deleting your account is immediate, permanent and self-serve, from your dashboard (mobile: your Account screen). What is deleted, and the records that are not, are described in the Privacy Policy.
We can suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms or the law, including after a report. We keep a minimised record that we did so and when, for as long as described in the Privacy Policy, so we can account for the decision if it is ever disputed.
Your photos must be real
Your profile photos must be real photographs of you. AI-generated or AI-altered images of a face are not allowed, whether the whole photo is synthetic or a real photo has had a face swapped or generated onto it. Flare exists so that the person you meet is the person you saw — which is the same reason every account has to pass an identity check before it can be seen at all.
How this is enforced, stated plainly: Flare does not detect AI-generated images automatically, and we know of no tool that reliably could. It is a rule enforced when a profile is reported and a person reviews it — so if a profile's photos do not look real to you, report it.
Conduct
Using Flare, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, or abuse another user.
- Impersonate any person, or misrepresent your identity, age, or affiliation with anyone.
- Post another person's photo or personal information without their consent.
- Use AI-generated or AI-altered face images, as above.
- Solicit money, gifts, or financial information from another user, or direct them off-platform for that purpose.
- Use Flare for commercial promotion, advertising, or spam.
- Scrape, systematically collect, or use automated means to access Flare or its data, or attempt to circumvent verification, rate limits, or blocks.
- Interfere with another user's use of the safety tools described below — blocking, reporting, or Share My Date.
- Use Flare if you are under 18, or if you have been previously removed from Flare for violating these terms.
Reporting, blocking, and enforcement
You can report or block anyone, from their profile, a conversation, or the pre-match likes-you list. Blocking is immediate and mutual — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what it hides and what it does not delete. Reporting takes a snapshot of the relevant conversation text, comments, and profile details at that moment, so that account deletion afterward cannot erase them. Photos are the one exception: the image files themselves are removed with the rest of an account when it is deleted, even from an existing report — the report keeps a record that a photo existed, not a copy of it.
Reports are reviewed by a person, not a bot. We are not stating a response time here: Flare has not launched, and there is no staffed rota with a committed checking cadence yet, so a number we cannot back is not one we are going to publish. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local authorities rather than waiting on a report.
To report a user or content you cannot reach in-app, email support@myflaredating.com with the profile's display name, what happened, and a screenshot if you have one.
Safety when meeting someone
Flare verifies identity before an account can be seen by anyone else, and offers Share My Date so you can send a trusted contact who you are meeting and where — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what that shares and for how long.
What identity verification does not do: at the moment the check was run, it compares a submitted government ID against the name and date of birth on the profile. It is not a criminal background check, it does not re-run if the profile is later edited, and it is not an ongoing guarantee of someone's behaviour or intentions after that moment. Checks currently run against our verification provider's test environment while production access is arranged — see the Privacy Policy for what that means today. Use the same judgment meeting someone from Flare that you would meeting anyone else you do not yet know: meet in public, tell someone where you are going, and use Share My Date.
Content you post
You own what you post — your photos, bio, prompt answers, and messages. By posting it on Flare, you give us the licence we need to store it, display it to the people Flare is designed to show it to, and operate the product around it — nothing more, and it ends when the content is deleted or your account is, except for a report's evidence snapshot, which is kept longer for the reasons described in "Reporting, blocking, and enforcement" above and in the Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for what you post, and it must be lawful, must not infringe anyone else's rights, and must comply with these terms.
Flare's name, logo, and branding belong to us. These terms do not give you any right to use them.
No paid features yet
Flare is currently free, with no in-app purchases or subscriptions. If a paid tier launches, these terms will be updated before that happens to describe what is sold, how billing works, and how cancellation and refunds are handled on each platform — and you will be able to read that update here before it applies to you.
Disclaimers
Flare is provided "as is". We do not guarantee that you will find a match, that another user's profile is accurate beyond what identity verification checks, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
We are not responsible for the conduct of any user, on or off the platform, or for what happens at a meeting arranged through Flare. Identity verification and the safety tools described above reduce risk; they do not eliminate it.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Nigerian law, FLARE DATING LIMITED is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Flare, or for the acts or omissions of another user. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product changes. A revised version is posted here with an updated date. For a change that materially affects your rights, we will also tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Nigeria, and any dispute arising from them is subject to the jurisdiction of the Nigerian courts.
